NRI Taxation & Advisory

Living abroad does not necessarily mean you are free from Indian tax obligations. Income earned or assets held in India can have tax implications, even if you are an NRI.

NRI taxation requires more than simply preparing and filing an income tax return. We take a complete view of the client's Indian and overseas financial position to determine the applicable tax treatment and identify opportunities for legitimate tax planning.

Our approach begins with understanding the client's residential status, sources of income, investments, property holdings and financial transactions in India, along with relevant information about their country of residence.

We then evaluate the applicable Indian tax provisions and, wherever relevant, the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA) to determine the appropriate tax treatment and available relief.

How We Assist

  • Residential Status Review – We assess the client's stay in India and other relevant factors to determine the appropriate residential status for tax purposes.
  • Indian Income Review – We identify and evaluate income arising in India, including rental income, interest, dividends, business income and investment income.
  • Capital Gains & Property Transactions – We calculate the tax implications of sale or transfer of Indian property, shares and other investments and evaluate applicable exemptions and tax-planning opportunities.
  • DTAA & Foreign Tax Credit – Where applicable, we examine treaty provisions and foreign taxes paid to help determine the appropriate relief available to the client.
  • TDS & Tax Compliance – We review TDS applicable to NRI transactions and reconcile tax deductions with the client's actual tax position.
  • NRI ITR Filing – We prepare and file the appropriate income tax return based on the client's complete financial position and applicable tax provisions.
  • Returning NRI / RNOR Planning – For individuals planning to return to India, we assess the potential tax implications and help plan the transition in advance.
  • Tax Planning & Advisory – We identify opportunities to structure transactions and investments in a tax-efficient manner while remaining within the applicable legal framework.

Our objective is not merely to file an NRI's tax return, but to provide a clear understanding of their Indian tax position and help them make financially informed decisions.

Whether you live abroad, own property in India, receive Indian income or are planning your return to India, our NRI Taxation & Advisory service is designed to manage the Indian tax aspects of your financial affairs efficiently and comprehensively.
